New vid: Brother, Pacific Rim

My Escapade vid is finally streaming, and should finish uploading for a permanent copy sometime later tonight.

Artist: Lord Huron
Fandom: Pacific Rim
File: MP4 61MB
Big damn heroes, every one.

How long have I known you, brother
Hundreds of lives, thousands of years
How many miles have we wandered
Under the sky, chasing our fears

Some kind of trouble is coming
Don't know when, don't know what
I will stand by you, brother
Till the daylight comes or I'm dead and gone

I've shared my life with you, brother
Since I recall, you've been my friend
You say we're not like the others
Still we must die, all things must end

I know we can't stop what's coming
But I will try, oh how I'll try!
Will you fight with me, brother
One last time, one last ride

Don't turn away, don't tell me that we're not the same
We faced the fire together, brothers till the end
Don't run away, our time will come but not today
I'll stand beside you, brother, with you till the end

I have a feeling that at some point, people will try to pay me to stop vidding Pacific Rim, but until then, I have so many feeeeels to get out that I can't stop vidding it. This time, I wanted to focus completely on the humans and the jaegers behind them. The other day I was talking with someone who dismissed the movie as some dumb Transformers thing, and I said, well, that's what a lot of people probably saw in it, but let me tell you what I saw in it, and this vid is basically what I told her -- that it's a story about people coming together, caring for each other, in order to save the world, and that all these amazing bonds are forged and there is just so much love: for each other, for humanity. That they are brothers in arms (and yes, I use that to mean women as well as men). There are only a couple shots in the vid that even show kaijus, and even in those the kaiju is mostly a body in the background.

Not gonna lie, I was really surprised at the reaction from people, and how many came up to me afterward to tell me that it gave them feels as well, or made them all weepy. I was pretty pleased with it when I finished it, but I had no hope that it might please others, especially others who don't know the movie or didn't like what they saw. So that was a pretty big bonus. They talked about how this was a vidshow of FEELS during vid review the next day, and yeah, I think that was an accurate description, which this vid definitely played into.

The song was one of those perfect things you luck into once in a very great while, and I knew the first time I heard it that it would embody my feelings about the movie and the big damn heroes who are part of it.

I love this! I got all teary! You've done a great job of drawing out the emotional core of the movie (and the connections between ALL the workers, scientists, jaeger pilots...even the ones who are in the film for maybe two seconds). Lovely.

Thank you! I was surprised by how many people told me that it made them sniffly, I hadn't expected that, and it's very cool!

Ahhh, that was just tremendous. I loved how you highlighted all different relationships, and how "brother" became such an all encompassing term, from familial to comrade-in-arms, to the humanity at large, banding together against a common threat. The judicious use of fast cuts to the drummy parts was a lot of fun. And wow, that's a great song, and very fitting to the source indeed.

Isn't that a great song? The first time I heard it, I didn't catch all the lyrics because I was getting a massage (!), but what I could hear I knew it was perfect for PR. I was so glad when I bought it that it turned out to still be as perfect as I'd thought. I just have such feels for all the people in this movie. They are all such big damn heroes.

I've got the DVD of Pacific Rim sitting on my TV console, waiting for an uninterrupted stretch of grown-up time to watch it! This vid helps put me in just the right frame of mind. I'm *always* about the relationships. I want the *BOOM* too, but without that connection between the characters, it's a hollow *BOOM*. So I'm delighted to get this intro and I hope to watch the movie v.v. soon!

I think one of the things I loved most about it was that it did a great balancing act between the boom and the people. And the relationships are all so multilayered. I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I did.

Thank you! (I never got a chance to thank you before, too, for all the really kind words you've said about How You Like Me Now and my other vids -- they really made me feel great and I truly appreciate it.)

I just caught up with this, thanks to Nearly New at VVC, and yes, took less than 30 seconds for me to get choked up. So sorry I missed this before, but happy I saw it now!

Oh, I can't tell you how happy this makes me! I had waffled about sending it to NN, and now I'm really glad I did. Thank you so much for such a lovely comment.
