I have had a most decidedly unjoyful day today, and it's 9:30 and I'm just now getting around to something for more joy day. So I should manufacture some joy to make this terrible day go out a little betterer than it came in (how bad was it? I bought those little two-bite cupcakes that come in a package of a dozen and are mostly frosting, which I don't even like as much as cake).

So steal from the best, I always say: like [personal profile] killabeez did, tell me a character or an actor I'll be likely to know, and I'll give you the reason they fill me with joy.

And today's 31 Flavors rec is one that fills me with joy. I haven't put up anything here for my major current fandom, Pacific Rim, and this isn't Hot Dads focused completely the way I tend to roll, but damn, this story filled me with glee. Herc is WAY MORE of a fainting flower here than I see him, and his hesitancy with Stacker doesn't ring true to me, but I still got caught up in the author's version of things and didn't mind too much. I also loved how the story starts out with the scientists, showing us the events from Newt's point of view, and then flips to the same story from Herc's point of view. It's really, really funny.

Spill all the dirty little secrets of your love for Alex Mahone. *G*

Ah ha ha ha. OK, what makes me most joyful about Alex? Well, let's put aside that he's played by William Fichtner. That leaves...well, he's still a hotass. But I think from the beginning, what got me about the character and continually filled me with joy was his brilliance. He was so fucking smart. And I loved that that translated to how he saw Michael, because even at the beginning he admired Michael's obvious cleverness, and that gave him a whole new perspective on how to treat him and to eventually find him. Honestly, if the company hadn't had something on him, imagine the fireworks of those two brains competing unhindered by outside forces. I love smart people. Alex is the smartest guy in the room, unless Michael's in it too.

I would like to hear about your love for Michael Biehn!

Oh golly. You know, I've loved him a long time. Since Terminator in 1984. And I've watched a hell of a lot of crap for him. But in his iconic roles -- Kyle Reese, Dwayne Hicks -- he just conveys this calm, cool, collected capability that I love. I think that's the core of what makes me squee about him in those roles, and as Chris on Mag 7 -- he's just really competent, and I have a huge competency kink. He seems like the kind of guy you could totally rely on to take care of shit, and there aren't a lot of guys who really seem like they can get shit done, you know? MB just exudes that.

Abbie Mills!

Abbie brings me joy for SO MANY REASONS. First, as evidenced in your icon, her SMILE. Wow she is so amazing and gorgeous and personable. Second, she hits my competency kink big time, and that has been so vanishingly rare for a black woman on TV and she reminds me a lot of Zoe on Firefly, which is only gonna make me love her more. I love her take no prisoners attitude -- my favorite will always be her telling her dead mentor in her dream to not be so cryptic if he wants action. Because it's about time someone said that. And then last but not least, her chemistry with Ichabod. I don't care if they never have a ship in the romantic sense, I just love that they are friends and she is strong enough to care for him despite knowing that it's probably not the wisest thing to do.

:D :D

So much yes, to all of this! I'm currently making a vid which is basically an ode to Abbie's smile. ♥ And I love the way her connection to Ichabod has developed so gradually and naturally.
