Kids these days...

The other day, [personal profile] belmanoir and I were lamenting how difficult Tumblr is to use, how unintuitive it is and all the things you can't do. And I was griping about how much of the social media today isn't very social -- you have these limits on what you can write, how you can respond (if you can even respond at all, which Tumblr sucks at), and what you can use it for. I have a terrible time posting pics here, and I always want to post about the things I love with pics, so I started a Tumblr account a while ago.

It never occurred to me to share it with anyone, because it's mostly my tea blog that I moved there to keep up with the kids these days. So far it's just been my mini-reviews about tea and tea-related things. But I decided I can't just talk about tea all the time, so I added my shoe fetish in. I'm constantly browsing Zappos and other shoe sites and fashion blogs looking for shoe things. I'll never be able to afford or wear the things I love, but I also enjoy the kind of wishful thinking aspect.

I bought those gorgeous Dries Van Noten sandals I posted about earlier this year, but they turned out to be terrible for my feet (I have weird-shaped feet and an abysmally high instep that makes a lot of things with ankle straps or high straps over the mid-shoe not work). I wanted to keep them and pet them and call them George. But alas, they were simply too much money for something I couldn't wear. I did get another pair of his sandals with iridescent leather, and they were perfect for club vivid. But it wasn't quite the same. Now I can just post pics of things I dream about instead.

You are under no obligation to add my tumblr to your tumblr, obviously. But if you want to, I'm at teatotally.tumblr.com. I'm having enormous trouble finding people I like over there because they have no real search function. I'd love to know who you are!

Ooh, I'm ajoblotofjunk.tumblr.com. I'm mostly posting my Project 365 pictures. When I can. Heh.

Yeah, Tumblr really doesn't work for me--I do find it really unintuitive, and it is (as you say) way more suited to broadcasting than to interaction, and I just can't get into it so far. (Plus it's hard for me to look at at work--which is where I'm online the most--because people are not super-careful about worksafeness a lot of the time, especially on comics Tumblrs, which were a lot of what I was reading.) I feel like what I really want out of social media these days is a better way to aggregate--blogging format works best for me, but I don't begrudge people who like Tumblr or Twitter or whatever better, I just want an easy way to keep track of everybody in their preferred formats, and I have not found one yet. Frustrating! It's not so much that I want the kids to get off my lawn as that I feel like a lot of people have moved across town and I don't get to see them much anymore.

Anyway. I'm brynnmck over there, but I am almost never there at this point. Though that could change at any moment, who knows. :)

I'm on tumblr. I'll add you. I don't use it much more than I use LJ (seems to be facebook for me mostly, probably tracking the decline of my attention span). But I use my tumblr account as a repository of anything semi-creative that I write. You'll notice that it is a desert.

Also: are you going to the northwest tea festival at Seattle Center? It's Oct 2 at the Fisher Pavilion.

I didn't even know this existed, so thank you for telling me about it! I would love to go -- I might try to go on Saturday if I can -- do you think you'd be interested? I owe you a phone call from a long time ago; I've really be battling being either too depressed to do much or too busy. Seems like it's always one thing or the other.

I started a Tumblr account but quickly lost interest. I can't really express myself there. When I do post I've found I'd much rather do it here.
