New vid: Prison Break

I made this vid for the Escapade vid show this year; it will be premiering there at a show, but I just don't want to sit on it anymore. I'm too happy with it! It's been a long time since I've been this giddily happy with a vid I made. This is a slightly modified version of what I sent to the con; it's not substantially different but this one will be tweaked a bit compared to that version. I really don't like the streaming version so I'm not going to embed it here, but I will provide a link -- I just think the DL is a lot cleaner and better looking.

Running Up That Hill
Fandom: Prison Break, Michael/Mahone
Artist: Placebo
File: Divx avi, 45MB
Obsession and wall porn.
Streaming: http://www.viddler.com/explore/gwyn/videos/14/

I don't normally warn on a vid, but Prison Break does use a lot of white flashing edits/blown out color flash edits, and I've also mimicked that style in some spots. I don't think it's that bad on a web file, but there you are.

Feedback or recs of any kind is always welcome. I might write some notes about this later just because I had so much fun making it.

Holy moly.
Brilliant with a capital B. Loved the ebb and flow of the elegant imagery that matches the rhythm of the song, love the POV and plot. Wonderful.

Re: Holy moly.
Awww, thank you! It means a lot to me that you are still interested in anything in the fandom, and your art and story were such an inspiration to me.

Oh wow, that was fantastic! I love it! I will be watching this many, many more times.
Mar. 2nd, 2011 01:15 am (UTC)
Thank you!! I'm still kind of weirded out that I was only vaguely involved in it when it was happening, but not as much as I am now when everyone's gone from it!

Wow, gwyn. Wow, wow, wow. I know absolutely nothing about this show - I know so little, in fact, that I didn't realize William Fichtner was in it, and he's one of my favorite actors! But this vid is gorgeous, and the intensity of the obsession and the love/hate and the chase totally comes through. And how. *g* The song in and of itself is sort of hypnotic, but the editing and flow is just amazing.

I know, right? When I saw this, I thought, now that's the fandom and the pairing this song was made for. I knew there had to be one out there.

Wow - this was amazingly done. Gorgeous editing and the song just fit perfectly :D

Thank you so much! I'm just really tickled to have had the chance to work on it, and that it is bringing enjoyment to other people is such a great feeling.

Oh man, this is fantastic!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

Oh my god they are the same person!

"So much hate for the ones we love" - epic clip choice. The sunglasses scene, in fact all the mirroring in general, just fantastic. The tattoo-in-SONA scene and Mahone biting his lip. The change in music for the wall-porn. Seriously, this was awesome.

They so totally are the same person! I have never seen such an intense brain-twin relationship, so much mind-mating going on. I'm really glad you mentioned the biting Mahone's lip scene -- I giggled like mad when I put that in, worrying that it was too OTT, but I enjoyed it so much I couldn't resist.

Perfect. Just perfect. I've missed these two and their eyesex on my TV! The song suits Michael & Mahone so well, and that last clip was particularly awesome. And great use of the wall scene, wherein I honestly expected them to kiss. ;-P ::watches again::

It's so funny -- I watched this all the way through the first time it was on, and I was sort of involved in things, but not as much as I have been lately for some reason. I'm really glad you enjoyed this and it reminded you of something you enjoyed.

This is truly excellent. Your use of effects is subtle and seamless with the source. The characters' stories are agonizingly clear, even to someone who has seen very little of the source. Fichtner is gloriously hypnotizing. Wall porn is the perfect description/warning. I can't wait to see the room's reaction at Escapade. :D

I'm really glad you liked it -- Fichtner really is hypnotizing. It's one of the most amazing performances he's ever done, and putting it together for the vid really reminded me of how incredible he is.

Wow. Dude, just, wow. I have no words.

This is just so awesome. The song is glorious and the vid is totally mesmerising. An utterly, utterly compelling take on the intensity of feeling between these two -- so beautifully illustrated how much they have suffered with, for, and because of, each other. The mirroring was gorgeously done, showing the different paths they took on the same journey.

The Sona scenes were so perfectly in sync with the music and so very, very hot :-)

But for all of the brilliance, I think my favourite bit was in the middle, with the cars -- driving towards a head on collision at a hundred miles an our, only pulling slightly out of the way of explosion at the last second but still creating a firestorm of sparks. You couldn't sum up their relationship any better!

Oh, my boys.

Well hey, look, guess I did find some words after all :-)

*standing ovation*

Oh, I am SO glad you liked it!! Your stories were so inspiring to me, and it's just really icing on the cake to hear that you got some pleasure from this. I kind of felt like I needed a cigarette after I made it -- it was so wonderfully intense watching all that over and over again.

GODDAMN, woman. You knocked that one out of the park. I'd never heard this version of the song before, and it's a perfect choice. Your use of effects to make the narrative a bit distorted, a bit fragmented, is perfect for Mahone. I especially loved your use of Mahone tearing Michael's picture off the wall, his hand-flick, and Michael dropping the cuffs. Oh, and the near collision, with sparks and 'thunder in our hearts'.

'Let's exchange the experience' literally gave me goosebumps. Wow.
Mar. 2nd, 2011 01:34 am (UTC)
Eeeeee, thank you! I almost forgot you were into the show, so it's great to know that you enjoyed it and be reminded of that. And that you enjoyed the hand-flick -- i don't know why, but I adore that clip to pieces, that whole sequence is so amazing.
Feb. 20th, 2011 01:31 pm (UTC)
Wow. That was fantastic!

I loved the song choice -- there's such a low, sexual energy to Placebo's sound and it works so well for the intensity between Michael and Alex. I loved the symmetry of the clips, the way that there were so many moments of showing Alex and Michael as alike, as equals and even reflections of each other. The editing was great.

And I especially loved your use of the wall scene, matching it to the music dropping lower and more intimate. It captured so many things that I love about this pairing.

Oh, thank you so much!!! I can't tell you how great it is to hear that you enjoyed it, since your stories and posts about the show and conversations with SDWolfpup were so very inspirational to me. The thing that constantly gets to me is how equal they are -- and how that shifts and morphs over the course of the show, changing who they are to each other while never lessening. It's so, so intense. And yeah, Placebo's version of this song seems like it was made for this fandom.

This is gorgeous. I expect to watch it many more times to get all the nuances. Thanks so much for making this and sharing it. Awesome vid!!

Thank you so much for watching it and letting me know you enjoyed it! It makes me so, so happy to know that someone got pleasure out of it -- and I hope you continue to!

Yay! I've seen vids set to this song before, but they never quite came off; I think it must be difficult to vid to. But your work here is seamless, and builds so beautifully. <3 I think the slightly dispassionate singing, combined with the passionate lyrics, works really well for them.

WOw, LJ is apparently not mailing me any of the comments... sorry for the delay replying. I wanted to thank you for the lovely coments, and say how much I agree with that about the dispassionate singing with passionate lyrics. I'd sat on the song for so, so long, always hoping to find the right pairing for it, seeing other people wanting to do it... and then finally there it was!

I love this so much <3333333. The song is gtreat, the clips amazing, EVERYTHING is amazing.

Have you made more of these, because man, you are TALENTED. I'm adding this to my mems!

Aw, thank you so much!!! Believe me, I LOVED making that vid. It was probably one of the best times, just sorting through all their eye fucking.
